Self Evaluation

What is the strongest entry in the site journal? Why? I think my 10-23 entry is my strongest. I use a lot of detail to describe the park and I use a lot of pictures to illustrate my points. I also connect my thoughts to readings we have done in class. What did you enjoy…

11-10

This time I visited DeBoer park on a Thursday. Normally I come on Sundays because I am less busy, but I decided to switch it up this week. As I walked along the sidewalk, I observed the trees. The leaves have almost all fallen now, and I expect the branches to be completely bare relatively…

11-6

Each time I visit the park it seems more and more grey. This week even more so than last. This makes sense because of the approaching winter, but it is kind of a sad sight. The leafy trees are mostly dead, and the leaves that have fallen are all dead. The grass has started to die, too….

10-30

Today, the leaves were slightly more brown than they were last week. The death of vegetation that comes with the change from summer to fall was evident at the park. Last week I said that the park was the most colorful as I would see it, and it seems I was correct. This week the vibrant…

Fracking

Climate change has become one of the most important issues of our age. One of the big debates within this area is fracking and whether its benefits outweigh its consequences. The key issues regarding fracking are that it destroys ecosystems, it pollutes watersheds, it causes earthquakes, it harms humans and animals, and has made so…

10-23

Each time I visit the park, I gain a new appreciation for nature and its benefits. I already fancy myself an outdoor enthusiast, and I genuinely enjoy everything nature has to offer. But after a busy week, visiting the park provides a much needed escape I’ve begun to crave more and more. I try to…

Orr and Fracking

Fracking is a complicated human contrivance consisting of hundreds of kilometers of cleared land, thousands of truckloads of materials, millions of gallons of chemical water, billions of dollars spent lobbying elected officials, a growing number of local residents being hurt by its consequences, and one nonrenewable resource.

Eco-feminism

I have experienced our culture valuing reason and devaluing emotion in that we are told to not let our emotions get in the way. Men and boys are told not to cry or express their sadness, even though it is a normal thing to do. Often times, women who have strong opinions are dismissed as…

In Class Writing

These two passages both address how humans are easily caught up in ourselves and our society. The first quote talks about how truth can be overpowering, but we may find ourselves in that truth. The second quote talks about the business of human society and how it is easy to get caught up in all…

10-16

When I visited the park today there were many more people than there have been in the past. I was greeted by several people walking their dogs; various couples, young and old, and a few individuals who were just strolling through on their own. In addition, I saw a little boy accompanied by his grandfather. The boy way running around laughing and urging his grandpa to “come and get” him. I got a feeling of nostalgia by watching this.

10-2

The wildlife at the park is fascinating. There are so many little things that I’ve noticed just by paying attention that I probably wouldn’t have before.
